Mirage Capture
What is Mirage Capture?
An app that turns the Apple devices you already own into a video crew: your iPhone is the camera, your iPad is the monitor, your Mac is the studio, and Apple Watch is the remote.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, Mac with macOS 26 or later, and Apple Watch paired with an iPhone. Capture Card needs an iPad with a USB-C port.
Do I need to buy it for every device?
No. One purchase includes the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac apps.
Is there a subscription or an account?
No subscription and no account. Mirage Capture works over your local network, with no cloud.
Can I use my iPhone as a webcam for Zoom, Meet, or FaceTime?
Yes. Mirage for Mac’s virtual camera, Mirage Camera, shows your iPhone, or a group of cameras, in any Mac app that lets you choose a camera.
Does it work with OBS?
Yes. Send any iPhone or iPad to OBS as an NDI® source: OBS needs the DistroAV plugin and the NDI Runtime, then a restart. On a Mac, Mirage Camera works in OBS with no plugin. See How to use your iPhone as a camera in OBS.
Can I record several cameras at once?
Yes. Mirage for Mac records every camera, screen, and microphone as its own file, in sync, with a timeline for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.
Can I use an iPad as a monitor?
Yes. With a UVC capture card, an iPad with USB-C shows any HDMI source, with false color, zebras, focus peaking, a waveform, a histogram, and LUTs.
Can I stream to YouTube or Twitch?
Yes. Mirage for Mac streams to services that accept RTMP or RTMPS, with your own stream key.
Does it work on Windows or Android?
Mirage Capture runs on Apple devices. Its NDI® and Browser outputs can be received on Windows and other computers on your network.
Is it private?
Connections stay on your local network, are encrypted, and are paired with a six-digit code. NDI and Browser outputs don’t use the code, so use them on a network you trust.
Does it need the internet?
No. Devices only need to reach each other on the same local network. Streaming to a service needs the internet.
Why can’t my devices see each other?
Turn on Local Network access for Mirage in Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network, and put every device on the same network. Guest, hotel, and school Wi-Fi and VPNs often block local connections; a personal hotspot works. See Devices can’t see each other.
What if the Wi-Fi drops during a recording?
iPhones and iPads can record a full-quality copy of their own, and Microphone always does, so the take is safe. The Mac downloads them afterward.
Can I control my iPhone’s camera from my Mac?
Yes, when the iPhone allows it in Settings › Mac Access: zoom, focus, exposure, white balance, lenses, the torch, recording, and screen lock.
Mirage for Mac
Does Mirage for Mac cost extra?
No. One purchase of Mirage Capture includes the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac apps.
Which apps can use Mirage Camera?
Any Mac app that lets you pick a camera: Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, Discord, OBS, and others. Mirage Camera is video only; your call app uses your microphone as usual.
How do I turn on the virtual camera?
Turn on Virtual Camera in Mirage for Mac. The first time, macOS asks you to allow it in System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions › Camera Extensions. Then choose “Mirage Camera” in your app.
Where do recordings go?
Each recording gets its own folder in Movies › Mirage, with a file for every source, a timeline for your editor, and the devices’ own copies once they download.
Which Mac do I need?
A Mac with macOS 26 or later.
Camera
Can I use my iPhone as a webcam on my Mac?
Yes. Start Camera on the iPhone, add it in Mirage for Mac, and turn on Virtual Camera. Then choose “Mirage Camera” in Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, or any other app.
Does Camera work with OBS?
Yes, two ways: through Mirage Camera on a Mac, with no plugin, or as an NDI® source on any computer, with the DistroAV plugin and the NDI Runtime installed in OBS.
Can I record while streaming?
Yes. Camera records on the device while it streams, in H.264, HEVC, or ProRes, and in Apple Log on supported iPhone Pro models.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. Camera works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later.
Does Mirage Capture need the internet?
No. Devices connect over your local network. There is no account and no cloud relay.
Director
How many cameras can Director show?
Up to four Mirage broadcasts at once, plus a Mac studio. Any one can fill the screen.
Do I need a Mac to use Director?
No. Director watches iPhone and iPad broadcasts on its own. Running a studio, recording it, and streaming need Mirage for Mac.
Can several people watch one camera?
Yes. A broadcast can be watched by up to four devices at a time (two for Screen Share).
Microphone
Can I use my iPhone as a microphone for my Mac?
Yes. Open Microphone on the iPhone and pair it with Mirage for Mac. The Mac uses it like any other source, and records it on its own lane.
Does it work with the screen off?
Yes. Microphone keeps working with the screen locked, and Dim Screen darkens it while it runs.
What happens if Wi-Fi drops?
The iPhone records its own copy on the device, so the take is safe. The Mac downloads it afterward.
Capture Card
Which iPads work?
An iPad with a USB-C port and iPadOS 17 or later. iPhone can’t connect a capture card, but it can watch an iPad’s Capture Card broadcast.
Which capture cards work?
UVC (USB Video Class) capture cards that iPadOS recognizes, the kind that work without a driver. A direct HDMI cable to the iPad is not enough.
Can I use it with a Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox?
Yes. Anything with HDMI out can go through the capture card: consoles, cameras, and computers.
Do overlays show up in recordings?
No. False color, zebras, and peaking are for the iPad’s screen only. Recordings, broadcasts, and screenshots use the clean feed.
Screen Share
Can I share my iPhone screen to my Mac?
Yes. Start Screen Share on the iPhone, choose it under Devices in Mirage for Mac, and enter the code it shows.
Does Screen Share include sound?
Yes, the shared app’s sound. It doesn’t include the microphone.
Can I share protected video?
Some apps block screen recording, and their content can’t be shared.
Apple Watch
Does the Apple Watch app work on its own?
It’s a remote for Mirage Capture on your iPhone, which needs to stay open.
Is the Apple Watch app included?
Yes. It comes with Mirage Capture on the paired iPhone.
