Devices can’t see each other
Mirage Capture finds devices directly on the local network, with no cloud in between. When a device isn’t in Director, under Devices in Mirage for Mac, or in OBS’s NDI sources, a permission or the network is in the way.
Steps
Allow Local Network access
iPhone and iPad: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › Mirage. Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › Mirage, then reopen Mirage. Without it, nothing nearby is listed.
Use one network
Every device on the same Wi-Fi or wired network. A router’s guest network is a separate network, even with a similar name.
Avoid networks that isolate devices
Guest, hotel, school, office, and some mesh networks keep devices from reaching each other (client or AP isolation), even when they show the same Wi-Fi name. Turn isolation off on your own router, or join every device to a personal hotspot, which works.
Turn off the VPN
A VPN or filtering app can send local traffic away from the network. Turn it off, or allow local network access in its settings.
NDI on Windows: allow the firewall
Allow OBS through the firewall when Windows asks, and set the network’s profile to Private. A Public profile and some third-party firewalls block NDI.
Still not found
- Check the source is still broadcasting: Mirage Broadcast, NDI, or Browser is on in its Outputs, and Mirage is open on the device.
- Scan Again in Director, or stop and restart the broadcast.
- Mirage for Mac says to update Mirage: update it on both devices.
- The browser page won’t load: open the http:// address exactly as shown; don’t change it to https://.
Questions
Does Mirage Capture need the internet?
No. Devices only need to reach each other on the same local network. Streaming to a service needs the internet.
Why does Mirage ask for Local Network access?
That is how it finds and connects to Mirage devices, NDI software, and browsers on your network. Without it, nothing nearby is listed.
Can I use it where the Wi-Fi isolates devices?
Use a personal hotspot instead and join every device to it.
