How to watch and switch cameras with Director

Director is where an iPhone or iPad watches. It opens on what is broadcasting nearby, shows up to four sources at once, and runs Mirage for Mac’s studio when you add the Mac.

What you need

  • iPhones or iPads with iOS 17 or later: one to watch, the others broadcasting
  • To run a studio: a Mac with macOS 26 or later and Mirage for Mac
  • All on the same local network

Steps

  1. Broadcast from the other devices

Camera with Mirage Broadcast on (Camera Settings › Outputs), Capture Card’s Mirage Broadcast, or Screen Share.

  2. Open Director

Director on the home screen lists every broadcast nearby, Macs included. Pick one and enter the six-digit code it shows. A broadcast added on its own opens full screen.

  3. Add more

Up to four share a grid. Full Screen on a tile watches only that one; Back returns to the grid. A tile’s menu has Listen, Rotate, and Remove.

  4. Run a Mac’s studio

Pick the Mac in the list: Control runs its studio, Watch Screen shows its screen. Pair with the code in Mirage for Mac › Settings › Studio.

What Control does

Director shows the Mac’s side panel, the picture in use, and its cards: tap a source to put it in Mirage Camera, record, add markers, play a replay, and start or end the stream with a press and hold. Sounds, the title, the logo, captions, and a Camera’s teleprompter are in the cards under the picture.

Without a Mac, Director is a multiview monitor for whatever is broadcasting nearby.

If it doesn’t work

  • Director says Local Network Access: turn on Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › Mirage.
  • Nothing Broadcasting: check the other device is broadcasting and on the same network, then Scan Again. See Devices can’t see each other.
  • The Mac isn’t listed: turn on Let iPhone and iPad connect to this Mac in Mirage for Mac › Settings › Studio.
  • Control does nothing: turn on Let devices control the studio in the same place.
  • No sound from a Mac’s tile: a Mac sends Director no sound, so it can’t echo in the same room.

Questions

Can an iPhone watch a capture card?

Yes. An iPhone can’t connect a capture card, but it can watch an iPad’s Capture Card in Director.

Do I need a Mac?

No. Director watches iPhones and iPads on its own. A Mac adds the studio: groups, Mirage Camera, recording, and streaming.

How many sources can Director show?

Up to four at once, any one of them full screen.
